Electrified MINI models record strongest sales growth since market launch.
Newly developed markets in the Asian region demonstrate the growing enthusiasm worldwide for typical MINI driving pleasure. In its British homeland, the premium brand set a new record with more than 46,000 registrations. In total, MINI registered 292,923 new models worldwide last year.
The surge in interest in electric MINI vehicles persisted through 2022. The all-electric MINI Cooper SE, a locally emission-free vehicle, is by far the most popular MINI model, seeing a 25.5 percent increase in sales compared to 2021 and 43,744 units sold worldwide. Its combined electricity consumption is 17.6 to 15.2 kWh/100 km per WLTP; its combined CO2 emissions are 0 g/km.
Purely electric vehicle sales, which already make up 15% of all global sales, are on the increase once more in Europe, where over 27,000 units of the MINI Electric are expected to be sold in 2022. This indicates that the MINI Cooper SE already makes up 22% of all sales. Particularly in Germany, France, and the UK, sales of the MINI Electric increased significantly. The all-electric MINI 3-door recorded the largest share of total sales in Scandinavia, at 45 percent.
In 2022, MINI further expanded its global offering for locally emission-free premium mobility with the sales launch of the all-electric MINI Cooper SE in Korea. These developments are evidence of the continued strong interest of the global MINI community in locally emission-free electric mobility.
The continued success of MINI models with electric drive confirms the brands path to an all-electric future. Focus on new markets and target groups successful.
In 2022, MINI will see significant growth as a result of strategic development with a focus on new markets and target groups. For instance, sales in Japan increased by 7% over the prior year to 19,530 units sold. Additionally, there was significant increase in the markets in India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and New Zealand, which ended 2022 with the biggest sales totals ever.
Additionally, MINI is spreading its social commitment globally and exhibiting BIG LOVE for the Planet. Under the motto we assist to spread BIG LOVE, MINI, its dealers, and the MINI community donated almost 680,000 euros to charitable organizations in the UK last year.
John Cooper Works brand with renewed record sales.
The previous year saw record sales for the best-selling John Cooper Works brands. 23,005 models were sold globally, an 8.9% increase over the very successful previous year. The American market experienced the highest growth rates, at 52%. In Germany, Japan, and Korea, sales of the performance-added MINI models reached record highs.
The MINI JCW 3-door continues to be the most popular model among the best sports cars, with a total of 10,372 units sold. 4,639 new vehicles were accounted for by the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman (fuel consumption combined: 8.3 – 7.6 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 188 – 173 g/km according to WLTP), 4,220 units to the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.4 – 7.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 168 – 161 g/km according to WLTP) and 3,750 units sold to the MINI John Cooper Works Clubman (fuel consumption combined: 7.9 – 7.4 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 180 – 168 g/km according to WLTP).
Highest market share to date for MINI in the UK.
The UK will still be MINIs top sales market in 2022 with 46,757 vehicles sold and a 2.84 percent market share. The performance of the all-electric MINI models in this area was the best to date, with 7,500 new registrations and an increase in sales of 11%. With 40,251 sales, Germany is still MINIs second-largest market, behind the United States (29,504 units). Austria (+ 7.6 percent), Italy (+ 1.7 percent), and France (+ 1.0 percent) all experienced market increase in Europe.
